Home-Start - Parents Supporting Parents

Home-Start Trafford, Salford and Wigan started providing support and friendship for families who are struggling to cope in 1999.

Over the past 20 years, they have found a wide of range of situations can compromise optimal parenting, such as loneliness, mental ill health, disabilities, multiple children, and increasing poverty and debt.

Home-Start provide support to help prevent crisis and family breakdown. They recruit, train and support volunteers, who are also parents, from the local community, to visit families in their own homes for 2-3 hours per week in order to provide practical help and emotional support. Parents supporting parents, a simple idea that really works!

Managing Director of Home-Start Kathryn Eckersley was invited to our 'Gift of Time' event in December 2018, she says "I attended the Christmas event as it looked like something which may help really support me as a charity leader but also to make further contacts and learn from other charities who may come across the same issues as we do. Our first event was really great, as well as meeting lots of other inspire* charities we also found Janet!

Janet is now one of our trustees, she is a real asset, with an abundance of energy and business skills. We have only had a couple of Inspire hub meeting so far but they're already proving useful and I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop."
